Certain activities can affect the result of your PSA blood test and may even cause raised PSA levels in patients who have a healthy prostate. Here is a reminder of the advice about activities to avoid in the days before your blood test:
- Strenuous exercise – We recommend that you do not do any strenuous exercise in the 48 hours before a prostate blood test. In particular, please avoid any cycling.
- Ejaculation – We recommend you avoid any sexual activity that leads to ejaculation in the 48 hours before a prostate blood test.
- Anal Intercourse – Receiving anal sex, or having your prostate stimulated during sex, might raise your PSA level for a while. This should be avoided for a week before a Prostate (PSA) blood test.
